BunBun - a favourite toy
This stained glass art work was based on a very battered, much loved toy. I started by photographing and drawing the rabbit with the 3 babies in her pockets, then left the drawings in my sketch book for a couple of years until I'd learned the skills to enable me to make it in glass! I wanted something lively and colourful, which would form a good backlit panel in a bedroom, so a combined fused, painted & leaded approach seemed to offer the best solution.
The main sections of the rabbits are fused Bullseye glass. The smaller pieces were cut out & fused onto larger white opaque base pieces. This was a fairly risky approach, as the cutting was time consuming and it could all have failed in the kiln. The next stage was to paint on the tiny flowers and other details. The background pieces were selected a bit like choosing fabrics for a patchwork. I wanted warm colours to complement the bright, harsh yellow of the rabbit's fur. The BunBun title and some more tiny flowers were added, all painted freehand.
