Cutting bevels for decorative stained glass windows

by Shirley

We are making two stained glass windows which have bevels all across the top and bottom. At each side there should be 1/2 of a bevel according to the pattern. We are making 2 duplicate windows for a friend and she has purchased the bevels. We have never cut bevels before and would appreciate your guidance. Thank you.

Milly's reply:
I'm not sure that the bevels should be cut - it would seem to negate the point of the light catching the bevelled edge. Are you sure that the pattern doesn't require smaller, rather than cut bevels?
I haven't cut bevels, but if you really do need to cut them I would suggest turning them over and supporting the edges with clay or plasticine so that they are stable when you apply the cutting pressure. Cut as normal, and use breaking pliers gently from each end to make the cut.
Good luck!
