Glass Etching Cream Alternative

by Sangeeta
(Pune, India)

Hi! I am from Pune, India. Firstly, the glass etching cream is not available here. Is there another option like some kind of acid and another cream. Also, what is an alternative name for the backing paper?

Milly's reply: There is the extremely dangerous hydrofluoric acid, which yields great results but is lethally dangerous. You can read more about it on my site here: Glass Etching
Or you can achieve the frosted effect by sandblasting - after you've stuck the resist on your glass, you'll either have to hire a sandblaster and blast it yourself, or find someone in your area who has one, and get them to do it for you.
With regard to the backing - it's the sticky plastic that we used to cover our school books with. I don't know what other names it might be called, but hope that helps.

Need info. about Glass etch cream
by: Priya

Hey Hi..
Right now in US. And i'm very much interested in glass etch art. So i wanted to know that,
Is Armour Etch cream great for home art (i guess i can get it from K mart/wal-mart) if it's not then which one would be better for windows/mirror art?

Milly says:

Hi Priya, I've had a look at Armour Etch on the web, and it looks a perfect glass etching cream for what you're after. As I'm from the UK, I'm not totally up with brands in the US, so if anyone across the pond has any other suggestions, we'd love to know. Good luck with your glass art work.
