Lace Soldering - More Details

I've seen some lace soldering and was wondering if you could tell me how it's made. It's like lace created with stained glass solder and joins 2 pieces of glass in a project. There is actually a space between the glasses and they can replace a piece of the pattern in the project. I would think that there must be a wire that is used to create this lace with the solder. It is very lovely and artistic especially in stained glass panels.

Milly's reply: I've never seen this before, it sounds fantastic. Stained glass solder sticks to copper wire, so you could make a pattern with the copper wire, then solder over it? It wouldn't be easy, but it might work. Sorry not to be of more help, but if there's anyone else out there that could help, it would be great!

Lace Soldering

I have had success with this by tinning precut filligrees. By carefully going over the filligree pattern you can build up a very nice thin bead of solder, that has a very lace-looking effect.

Milly replies: Thanks so much for this, I was stumped there and now have a clue!
